Management implies that the owner would expect you to oversee a construction project. If the decision were mine I would think a criminal sex offender can't manage his own impulses, doesn't have respect for others boundaries and lacks judgement-and these are just the tip of the iceberg. If the guy wants to be a laborer, fine (as long as he's well supervised)…but not management. The liability is way too great.

Has he worked in construction? Did he do jail time? How long has he been out of jail? Has he held any other jobs since getting out of jail? How long ago as the offence? Has he had rehabilitative counselling?

Those are all questions that need to be answered before considering his next move. I went back to university in my 40s, and it isn't easy. The brain doesn't work as fast when you get older

It might be useful for him to approach a couple of construction companies, tell them the situation, and ask if they would hire him, if he had a degree. Whether they would may depend on exactly what his offence was. If he offended against a child, I doubt if anyone will hire him.

Honestly, given his age and criminal record, he would be better setting up his own company rather than trying to join an existing one. He could take on & oversee smaller jobs like renovations or additions. However, if people know that he's a sex offender, he may have difficulty getting projects.

Dont panic. If you are uncomfortable with putting this job on your resume then dont. You are not required to post any job you had on your resume if you dont want to. Most resume professionals say keep your resume specific. Highlight the positions you have had that make you qualified for the one you are applying for. Be prepared to answer the gap in employment in an inteveiw though. You can explain it honestly. You were briefly employed with a company that wasnt a good fit for you or them and you decided to pursue other opportunities. Dont offer negative information to your prospective employer especially information they arent privy to. A background check will NOT turn up positions you used to have that you dont represent on your resume. Background checks look at things like your credit score and your criminal history. And prospective employeers are required to ask your permission before contacting previous employeers or references. Any previous employer that you have can not say anything negative about you other than weather you are eligable to be rehired. If they to then they can be sued for defamation of character because they would have to prove that whatever they said was true and not designed to hurt you employment chances.

A company I once worked for once had me arrested for a crime I was later proven innocent of (they obviously fired me) and I still present them on my resume. I tell the prospective employer that the separation was not amicable and I do not wish them to contact them. The background checks that are run on me show nothing because the arrest and the charges were dropped. I have been constantly employed since this incident because of that and I have been employed in positions of high responsibility as well.

I realize having a job is important but the more relaxed and comfortable you are the better the interveiw process will go. Good Luck.
